For the first time this season, the Epson Tour has arrived at a tournament where there was no defending champion. But as is the case for most other tournaments, there are two past champions in the field looking for another IOA Golf Classic presented by Aperture trophy. Laura Wearn and Jenny Coleman teed it up on Friday in search of another victory at this event, but only Coleman remains in contention following 36 holes.

The California native won the 2023 playing of the IOA Golf Classic, defeating Dottie Ardina and Sophie Hausmann in a two-hole playoff. The win ultimately helped the University of Colorado Boulder alum earn her LPGA Tour card for the 2024 season, graduating as No. 7 in the Race for the Card rankings. Hausmann is also competing in the 2025 edition but didn’t find the success that Coleman did through 36 holes, turning in rounds of 76 and 77.

In her first competitive appearance since the 2024 Dow Championship, Coleman started the tournament with a 2-under 70 but found momentum on Moving Day, signing for a second-round 67, making five birdies and one bogey on day two.

“Today definitely felt more solid,” said the 32-year-old. “Yesterday was kind of knocking the rust off for me. First tournament back in a while. But today, I definitely hit the ball well and kept it simple. Made some birdies and got around the course well.”

The week has been full of reminiscing for Coleman, although she does not feel the course has changed much since her win in 2023. The biggest change from then to now is with her flat stick, as she now uses a broomstick putter.
