Moving Day at the Central Florida Championship has lived up to its name so far, with the morning wave posting numerous low rounds. Four athletes shot 5-under, but the low round of the morning belonged to Epson Tour veteran Laura Wearn, who signed for a 7-under, 65.

The North Carolina native’s scorecard saw six birdies, one eagle and a lone bogey, a much different result from Friday’s first round that consisted of two birdies and three bogeys.

“It felt really good. It was nice to finish with a birdie, and it was nice to see a few putts go in,” said Wearn following her second round. “Yesterday, I couldn't make anything, so it was a good change. I probably hit it just as well yesterday. I had really slow starts both days, so it was nice to finish stronger than I started.”

The 33-year-old’s lone eagle came on Country Club of Winter Haven’s 18th hole, sending Wearn into the turn with some momentum. Her scorecard was bogey-free for the rest of the round.

“I had a couple of eagle chances yesterday that I didn't make, so I was really excited when that one went in,” said Wearn. “It was great. I haven't been able to play as much golf as I'd like, so it's nice to see some good results and feel like I'm not quite as rusty as I thought I was.”

Wearn is soaking in the sunshine this week in Winter Haven, Fla., something she hasn’t been able to do much of recently at home in Charlotte. But not having great golf weather has also allowed the veteran to take some needed time away from the game and reset before coming back to the Epson Tour in 2025.

Only two rounds into the season, Wearn hasn’t put too much pressure on goal setting just yet, but like everyone else teeing it up, she knows she wants an LPGA Tour card at the end of the season.

“I obviously want to finish in the top 10,” said Wearn. “And I hope this is my year, and we'll see. It's nice to have a good round to start the year.”

A win or top finish at the Central Florida Championship on Sunday could see Wearn find her place in the top 15 of the Race for the Card standings early, but consistency will be key to keeping herself there throughout the following 19 tournaments. Only time will tell if she finds herself at the LPGA Card Ceremony this October, but her second-round score at the Central Florida Championship indicates this may be a good year for Wearn.
